Switch off and soak up the atmosphere Villa Gonos has to offer. If you’re looking for privacy and tranquillity, then this Greek hillside retreat is your dream holiday. With breathtaking views onto the Mediterranean, you’ll not want to leave. Book a longer stay if you can, you won’t regret it.

Villa Gonos comprises four self-catering apartments — A, B (attached), C and D (detached) — which all sleep up to six. They each have their own private pool and plenty of loungers for sun worshippers. Inside, you’ll be greeted by a modern open-plan living/dining area. The kitchen has all the essentials (fridge-freezer, electric stove, coffee maker, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and toaster), so you’ll feel right at home. The master has a queen-sized bed, there’s a twin room for singletons and a double bedroom with a balcony. Two bathrooms ensure no one is left queuing for the toilet.

When you’re ready to explore, a five-minute walk along a dirt track will take you to Kiotari’s long sandy beach. (Take a torch if you’re staying out late to guide your way back.) It’s a world away from modern living. You’ll see locals sitting on their porches watching the world go by or cooling off and talking in the sea. This laid-back theme continues at the seafront taverns, serving some of the best seafood you’ll encounter. To go further afield a car is highly recommended. A two-minute drive south will take you to the supermarket and butchers. A five-minute drive north brings you to Kiotari village, where you’ll find shops, bars, more restaurants and a well-maintained beach. Travel to Lindos will take 20 minutes and Rhodes Town is about an hour away.
